Deregistration
You are moving from Münster? What a pity!
A deregistration is only necessary in Münster if you are moving out of a residence and not moving into a new domestic residence in Germany.You can find examples below.
If you are not moving into a new domestic residence in Germany you must officially cancel your registration – for the deregistration you need:
- the form "Change of Address / Deregistration at the Residents' Registration Office"
You can get the registration form in one of the facilities of the Citizens' Affairs Office (Amt für Bürgerangelegenheiten) as well as at Münster Information in the Council Office Building (Stadthaus 1) or directly here.
Is a deregistration necessary?

You move out of your residence in Münster and move into a new residence in Berlin.
- No, deregistration is not necessary. When registering in Berlin, please record that you have moved out of your residence in Münster.
You move into a different, new residence in Münster (change of address in Münster).
- No, deregistration is not necessary. Only register the move into the new residence.
You move into a new secondary residence in Hamburg, but the main residence in Munich remains (until now Münster was your secondary residence).
- No, deregistration is not necessary. When registering in Hamburg, please record that you have moved out of your residence in Münster.
You move back to your present main residence in Munich (until now Münster was your secondary residence).
- Yes, deregistration is necessary. You are not moving into a new residence, so please cancel the registration of your residence in Münster.
In future you no longer have a residence (without a permanent residence).
- Yes, deregistration is necessary. You are not moving into a new residence, so please cancel the registration of your residence in Münster.
You are moving to a foreign country.
- Yes, deregistration is necessary. You are not moving into a new residence in Germany, so please cancel the registration of your residence in Münster.
