Where cargo was once un- loaded, the area around the harbour basin is now characterised by colourful graffiti, relaxed chilling on the benches at the edge of the harbour, diverse cultural venues and a gastronomic mile for strolling - just come and have a look around. 5 HAWERKAMP 6 FESTIVALGELÄNDE 2 The Stadthafen is a diverse area defined by ur- ban lifestyle and youthful culture. Colourful graffiti, groups hanging out in style on street corners, the exuberance of the Kreativkai, bus- tling restaurant staff … just come and see for yourself. In the city centre, start your tour be- hind the main station in the 1 Hansaviertel, a district that is home to many creative studi- os and start-ups using co-working spaces. Here you will find international food spots and see student life, trendy bars and street art. On the north side at the 2 harbour ba- sin, the mix of converted warehouses and mod- ern architecture is known as the Kreativkai. In this fascinating area, the 3 Speicher II build- ing accommodates the Kunsthalle Münster, an exhibition space for contemporary art, not far from the award-winning Hot Jazz Club and many tempting gastronomic choices – includ- ing the Restaurant Hochstapler, which serves perhaps the largest range of burgers. As the col- ourfully illuminated party ship MS Günther (named after Günther Jauch, who personally christened the boat) does the rounds on the wa- ter, we head to the opposite side, the so-called B-Side. Industrial monuments, including an old storage silo and a distinctive dockside crane, recall the days when cargo was unloaded here. Today, the Flechtheimspeicher building hous- es the Wolfgang Borchert Theater. A short distance from here is the organic dairy of the 4 Hafenkäserei, where you can book a tour, sample the cheese or simply take a seat at a cosy restaurant to watch the busier happenings on the other side. Tracing a slightly wider arc behind the Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Mün- sterland convention centre brings you to the 5 Hawerkamp, an iconic festival ground on a former brownfield site. This area is home to artists, an old locomotive shed serving as an event space and a club scene where on week- ends especially, people party hard – until the sun rises, in fact. Every summer, 6 Festi- valgelände attracts visitors with palm trees and sand. Tuesday evenings are all about ‘Sal- sa am Beach’. Logically enough, without the 7 Dortmund- Ems-Kanal, Münster wouldn’t have a harbour district at all. There are beautiful walks along the Canal, plus a cycle path to explore. Peo- ple come here to have barbeques and unwind, while rowers train on the Canal year-round. At the 8 twinned locks on the Schifffahrter Damm, two ships can pass through the lock simultaneously, either downriver towards the north or upriver heading south. 5 3 g r e b n e p p e K e t t i g i r B o t o h P 2 e l l e w h c S r a m g a D o t o h P n n a m k l o K d i v a D o t o h P e l l e w h c S r a m g a D o t o h P LEGAL NOTICE Explore Münster Published by: Münster Marketing, Klemensstraße 10, 48143 Münster info@stadt-muenster.de, ph. +49 251 4 92-27 10 www.stadt-muenster.de/en/tourismus/ Photo rights: Cover image: Thomas Branse (@tombophoto bei Instagram) Printing: Bitter & Loose GmbH In cooperation with: Initiative starke Innenstadt Münster e.
