Burg Hülshoff (Castle) - Center for Literature
Burg Hülshoff is about 10 kilometres (just over 6 miles) west of Münster. A moated castle, it has been in family ownership since the 15th century. Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, one of Germany’s most important woman poets, was born here in 1797 and lived here until she moved to Rüschhaus House in 1826.
Today there is a Droste Museum in parts of the castle, providing an insight into how this aristocratic Münster family lived at Annette’s time. The castle’s spacious park with its wildlife reserve and garden island is open to the public and is ideal for walks. Visitors can also relax and enjoy the food and drink in the castle’s café and restaurant.
