Room 3: Green uniforms, red with blood
Enslaving the population in the occupied territories, systematic genocide of Jews, Sinti and Roma – the Nazis waged the Second World War with the goal of reshaping Europe according to their racial ideology.
The Order Police played a central role.
The commander of the Wehrkreis VI (between Aachen, Hamm and Bielefeld) was stationed in the Villa. He had two main responsibilities: sending police units into the occupied territories, and maintaining what was seen as order at home.
This included air-raid protection, policing deportees, or carrying out all kinds of deportations. Ideological education was a main concern as well, in order to turn policemen into political soldiers who were tasked with suppressing political resistance.
From the Netherlands deep into Russia, people were fighting back against the Nazi regime.
As many as 600,000 persecutees were killed by units of the Order Police.
