European networks
The City of Münster is involved in various European networks, in order to position the city within these structures, but also to gain new cooperation partners for projects and to learn from the experiences and ideas brought in by others. Essentially this includes the following networks:
EUROCITIES
EUROCITIES is a network comprising more than 130 million people. EUROCITIES is run by major European cities with more than 250,000 citizens. More than 190 cities from around 40 countries of the European continent are members. The network sees itself as representing the interests of major cities in Europe and has built up an extensive network of contacts with the organs and institutions of the EU since it was founded in 1986. At the same time, EUROCITIES offers a forum for big cities to exchange experiences and advance joint projects.

EUREGIO
EUREGIO with its office at the border crossing Gronau – Enschede is a cross-border association comprising 129 German and Dutch municipalities, districts, and Waterschappen. About 3.4 million people live in the EUREGIO region. On the Dutch side, its territory covers the regions of Twente and Achterhoek, as well as parts of Noordoost-Overijssel and Zuidoost-Drenthe. On the German side, it includes the Grafschaft Bentheim, the city and the district of Osnabrück, parts of the southern Emsland, and the Münsterland region with Münster as an independent city. EUREGIO is committed to friendly coexistence across borders in the said area. The network offers a platform and unites its members in order to support and implement a wide range of cross-border measures. Especially the town twinning Münster – Enschede benefits from the EUREGIO membership, as numerous German-Dutch projects have already been implemented with the support of the network.

MONT
The city network MONT is based on the voluntary cooperation between the cities of Münster, Osnabrück, and the network city Twente with Enschede, Hengelo, Almelo, Oldenzaal, and Borne. Thus, the three largest EUREGIO cities located close to the border are interconnected. On the basis of this cross-border cooperation, the member cities want to jointly face the social and economic challenges and simultaneously distinguish themselves in the European arena.
