September 10th: Open Monument Day

The Peace of Westphalia has not only left its mark on Münster's DNA, but also on its monumental landscape.

This year, the nationwide opening of the Open Monument Day® took place in Münster to pay special tribute to this with all of the city's citizens. It marked the start of Germany's largest cultural event, the nationwide Open Monument Day, which takes place in a different city every year. It is organized by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, which operates under the patronage of the Federal President, in cooperation with the host city.

In Münster, visitors were treated to a rich stage program with musical accompaniment by Jan Löchel and Henning Wehland on Lambertikirchplatz. A "Market of Opportunities" was set up on Prinzipalmarkt, where almost 20 exhibitors presented their work and the diversity and potential of heritage conservation. In addition, around 100 expert guided tours of monuments were offered throughout the city.
