Period of validity of the residence permit
A residence permit for the purpose of in-company training is usually granted for the duration of the training period. If you fail the final examination and take a re-examination, an extension for the re-examination is also possible.
Change in purpose of stay
Once you have successfully completed your vocational training, you can in principle also apply for a residence permit for another purpose. A residence permit as a skilled worker with vocational training may be considered. A residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment can also be issued (see: After vocational training).
However, if you fail to obtain a qualification at the end of your vocational training or break off the training, changing the purpose of stay is possible as well, except for temporary employment according to the employment regulations.
Paid employment
The residence permit initially permits the pursuit of vocational training. In addition, employment (independent of the training) of a maximum of 20 hours per week is permitted.
